Digital creations were to the fore on 28th February when the Digital Art competition was coupled with Brian Goldie’s presentation on Ai imagery.
Congratulations to Seamus Whelan who won this year’s Digital Art competition. There were only 18 entries but several techniques on show, including composites, in-camera motion, the Adamski Effect and colour replacement.
Members voted for their top three images and the results were:
1st place: “On the Run” by Seamus Whelan – 90 points
Joint 2nd: “Exposed Forest” by Brian Green – 65 points
Joint 2nd: “cRooked Hat” by Andrea Thrussell – 65 points
We also looked at members’s favourite mobile phone images, which underlined how good phone cameras have become. We will ask members whether to continue with Digital Art and a mobile phone competition next season.
The top three Digital Art images are on this page, along with images from the second part of the evening, when Brian Goldie gave a fascinating presentation of images created entirely by Artificial Intelligence (Ai).
Brian led us on an entertaining and engaging journey through the subjects and topics he has explored so far. Using an online Ai subscription service, his initial aim was to create images to print and display at home but he has experimented with everything from cute Christmassy scenes and animals to a photo-realistic image of Boris Johnson and Donald Trump squaring up to each other in boxing gloves.
The most heard comments from members were “Amazing” and “Scary!” as some of the images were so realistic that it was hard to believe they were not photographs. Many thanks to Brian for his explanations and variety of pictures, and we look forward to seeing more!
