Bring Your Camera!

Dials on a camera

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, 18th September, and it is a Club Night.

These evenings include presentations and demonstrations from well-known local photographers or from members of the club with particular knowledge and experience on a specific topic, or practical evenings and workshops where we bring our cameras and learn or try something different.

This Wednesday is the latter and you should bring your camera plus any additional lenses and tripod if you have them. If not, there will be a couple of spare tripods to borrow.

It will be an informal session based around tabletop photography, close-up, ‘bokeh’ and some unusual subjects. There will be plenty of opportunities to swap ideas and advice, ask questions and try something different with your camera.

Introductory Night & Mike Goldie Trophy

We were delighted to be joined by several new faces at our first meeting of the new season on Wednesday, and we hope to see them again at our next meeting on the 18th.

New Chair Andrea Thrussell began the evening by outlining the structure of the season ahead, explaining the changes to the committee since the AGM in May and thanking both Jason Quayle and Jonathan Latimer for their service to the committee.

The annual Mike Goldie Trophy competition had a theme of ‘Trees’, which was chosen by last year’s winner, Gwen Tuck. There were a variety of locations and styles among the entries reviewed by Gwen, and congratulations to Brian Green who took the honours with his image ‘Wind Blown In Santon’.

Welcome to 2019-20

The new season starts on Wednesday 4th September with an introduction to the society and what lies ahead in this busy season, so if you are thinking of coming to see us that would be the ideal date – although you can join at any time.

For current members it is a chance to renew your membership and welcome the new faces, and remember to bring your images for the Mike Goldie Trophy competition. The theme selected by last year’s winner, Gwen Tuck, is ‘Trees’ and Gwen will judge the entries on the night (images should be digital and no more than three per person).

Please also bring some digital images of “What I Did This Summer” to share after the break. Bring all images on a memory stick at the start of the evening.

Desktop News

We are delighted to launch our brand new website, which has been redesigned from the ground up and is hosted on a new platform and server.

The old website served the Southern Photographic Society well for almost ten years under the care of Jason Quayle, but technology continues to develop and with this redesign we will be able to take advantage of some of the most current tools to share our information more effectively.
