History

The Southern Photographic Society was set up in October 1971 by Mike Goldie and friends to cater for photographers in the south of the Isle of Man.

In 2005 the first SPS website was formed and in the same year Mike’s son, Brian, started a digital offshoot of the club, which merged back into the SPS as more members took up the digital technology.

Having met for many years in the Cherry Orchard Hotel in Port Erin, following the closure of the hotel in 2018 we changed to our current venue of the clubhouse at Colby AFC.

The Society marked its 50th anniversary in 2021 with a celebration dinner and an exhibition of members’ work at the Erin Arts Centre.

We would like to expand this brief history of the SPS so if you are a past or present member with material or photographs to share, please get in touch via email or the Contact Us form in the top menu.
