Bring Your Camera!

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, 18th September, and it is a Club Night.

These evenings include presentations and demonstrations from well-known local photographers or from members of the club with particular knowledge and experience on a specific topic, or practical evenings and workshops where we bring our cameras and learn or try something different.

This Wednesday is the latter and you should bring your camera plus any additional lenses and tripod if you have them. If not, there will be a couple of spare tripods to borrow.

It will be an informal session based around tabletop photography, close-up, ‘bokeh’ and some unusual subjects. There will be plenty of opportunities to swap ideas and advice, ask questions and try something different with your camera.

If you didn’t see our 2020 calendars at the summer exhibitions, there will be samples of both available to view and purchase/order. One features Manx scenery and the other nature images, and they each cost £8 with profits to club funds.

Finally, the first competition deadline of the season is almost upon us. It is an ‘Open’ competition so there is no set theme and you can enter up to three digital and/or three print images of any subjects. There is no requirement to enter the competitions – although it is a good way to get feedback from an experienced external judge and learn from their comments – but equally there is a lot to be learned from observing other members’ images and listening to the judge’s comments.

The deadline is next Sunday, 22nd September at 6pm, and the competition takes place on 2nd October. There is more information about the competitions here and please do speak to any committee member if you have questions.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday for what will hopefully be a fun evening. New members are always welcome so feel free to come along for a chat. We start at 7.45pm and directions are here.
