2-Way Battle 2022

The 2-Way Battle between the Western and Southern Photographic Societies returned after skipping a year due to the 2021 lockdown.

It was the turn of the Western to host the ‘Battle’ at their venue in Peel, and after winning at Colby in 2020 we were unable to retain the unique trophy this year.

Entries by the Southern Photographic Society earned some good scores, including three with the maximum of 20 points, but our average was slightly below the Western and the final totals were 530 points for the WPS and 518 for the SPS.

Chris Blyth, a mainstay of the IOMPS and neutral judge for the battle, complimented both clubs for the high standard of entries and gave each image a thorough assessment, offering a balance of positive and constructive critique.

Scores ranged from 15 to 20 points, with three entries scoring 20 for the Southern and four for the Western.

Our three maximum scoring images in order of appearance were “Busy Bee” by Andrea Thrussell, “Dandelion Drop” by Georgina Shaw and “Super 8” by Brian Green.

19 points were awarded to “Eye to the Sky” by Andrea, “Light on Dark” by Seamus Whelan, “Pencils” and “Strawberries and Cream” both by Jason Quayle and “Summer Solstice” by Barry Hennedy.

Barry’s “Glen Roy in the Fall”, Georgina’s “Ice and Fire”, Alan Taylor’s “Propulsion” and “Just Having Fun”, and Jim Gibson’s “Sphere in Sphere Sunset” all scored 18 points.   The full score sheet has been circulated to members.

Our congratulations and thanks again to the WPS for hosting the battle, and we look forward to hosting next year’s!
