It was great to see new faces among the familiar ones at our first meeting on Wednesday 7th September.
It was also the opportunity to make Lesley Cullen a Life Member of the SPS. Lesley is our longest-serving member and first entered slides into club competitions around 1990. She also served on the committee for many years, most recently stepping in to act as Secretary for 18 months. Lesley was presented with her certificate by SPS President Brian Goldie and we look forward to seeing her at many more meetings.

The traditional first competition of the season is the Mike Goldie Trophy and the theme was set by last season’s winner, Stuart Alexander. He set ‘Precarious’ as the theme and additionally asked for images to be straight out of camera apart from cropping and straightening.
There were a variety of subjects and interpretations of the theme and we all reviewed the entries a few times as Stuart whittled the entries down to the following top three:
1st: “Redwood Survival” by Brian Green (top of page)
2nd: “I Think I’ve Got It” by Brian Green
3rd: “Clinging On” by Andrea Thrussell

Thank you to Stuart and congratulations to Brian, who will decide the theme for next year’s Mike Goldie Trophy.
After the break, we saw a selection of images for the summer challenge on the topic of ‘Gates’, which was followed by “What I Did This Summer”. Thank you to everyone who took part.

Our next meeting on Wednesday 21st is a practical evening and the first of the scoring competitions follows on October 5th. The deadline for entries is Sunday, 25th September.
