Members and guests enjoyed a wide-ranging presentation of prints from Ruth Nicholls last night.
Ruth joined the IOMPS in the 1980s, she is also a member of the WPS and she has gained photographic qualifications including the LRPS and DPAGB.
In 2020 Ruth’s husband Chris was due to visit us to judge the “Close-up” competition, and when it fell victim to a lockdown Chris and Ruth assessed the digital entries at home and supplied joint scores and individual written feedback. Chris accompanied Ruth last night so we were able to thank them both in person.
Ruth grouped her prints by topic and explained the idea and the process behind them. She also had a selection of before/after pairs and described how some of the images had been “flipped” from left to right to produce a more pleasing or balanced result. We had the opportunity to study the prints more closely during the break and afterwards.
The first section included several interior images of old tholtans and Ruth admitted to carrying some of the ‘props’ along to enhance the scenes, which created a few humourous moments. Other sections included Architecture, Creative and People, and foreign travels to France, Italy, Croatia and Cuba among others.
Ruth received warm applause at the end of a superb presentation of high-quality prints accompanied by stories and tips, and several members commented that they felt inspired and were leaving with fresh ideas.
