
The competition season got underway on Wednesday with the results of the Nature’s Patterns competition.
Our judge was Dr Patricia Tutt ARPS, a vastly experienced photographer, judge and long-serving committee member at the Western PS, and she assessed 25 prints and 52 digital entries.
Beginning with the prints, it was noted that this theme attracted a high proportion of close-up images, which are often challenging in terms of precise focus and depth of field, but Pat was always positive, constructive and generous with advice.
New members Angela, Gregg and James entered their first competition, and James made a flying start by winning the print section with a dramatic image of the textures of a rolling wave (above) that Patricia liked very much and embodied this theme.

Pat named a top five in each section and some “Highly Commended” and “Commended” too, so the full results are as follows:
