Steve Marsh returned to the club to deliver the results of the March competition, “Roads, Routes and Pathways”.
A TT scrutineer and former Royal Engineer, Steve always brings attention to detail and humour to his commentary, and he gently pointed out some small details missed by the photographer.
Print entries were lower than usual this month, but they included beautiful scenery and varied locations and Steve liked them as his scores ranged from 16 to 20 points.
Congratulations to Seamus Whelan, whose busy street scene with a blurred bicycle moving through the foreground earned the top spot. Steve said he liked the focus, composition and the different stories within the frame.
Runner-up was Andrea Thrussell’s monochrome image of a bridge with triangular “windows of light” falling onto the path, while Sue’s “timeless” image of tractors winding their way through heather earned third place.
Print section results:
1st: “Busy High Street” by Seamus Whelan – 20 points
2nd: “White Bridge” by Andrea Thrussell – 19 points
3rd: “Driving Through Heather” by Sue Clegg – 19 points
The digital section had 39 entries and Steve praised the variety of subjects, with scores ranging from 14 to 20. His top pick was Andrea’s monochrome image of a misty footpath through trees – a popular subject for this theme – which he said was “crisp and well-exposed” and left him wondering where it led.
Runner-up was Brian’s “warp speed” zoom burst image of a bridge which was “intriguing”, with third place going to Steve’s image of castle walls and a brewing storm, which he felt “takes you on a journey”.
Digital section results:
1st: “Misty Path” by Andrea Thrussell – 20 points
2nd: “To Infinity and Beyond” by Brian Green – 19 points
3rd: “Harlech Castle” by Steve Johnstone – 19 points
Steve generously gifted the winners with a voucher for framing, and well done to everyone who entered and contributed to an evening of attractive images.
