Battle Success!

Dean Harrison at Greeba Bridge by Jim Gibson

Great news!  The SPS won last night’s annual battle with the Western Photographic Society by six points.

It was our turn to host this year, so a big thank you to everyone who helped set up the venue and ensured the smooth running of the evening.

The points totals were:
SPS: 515
WPS: 509

Five entries were awarded the maximum 20 points by judge Tony Curtis, including Jim’s “Dean Harrison at Greeba Bridge” and Steve’s “Barn Owl Hunting Prey”. Congratulations to Jim, whose excellent race image was selected as Tony’s favourite of the five.

Barn Owl Hunting Prey by Steve Johnstone

An honourable mention to James for his three images that collected 19 points each.

Tony’s comments were thorough, with little escaping his experienced eye, and he contributed to an enjoyable evening that featured a range of excellent entries.  He commented that he thoroughly enjoyed looking at the entries and had to be especially picky to differentiate between 60 high-quality images.

Eddie Fryer of the WPS congratulated us on a “well-deserved win” and thanked us for hosting – with a special mention for Sue’s homemade cakes – and then commended Tony for his “excellent judging”.

Our next meeting is a club night on 2nd April, followed by the Open competition on 16th April when Patricia Tutt is the judge.
