First Night 2025

Mike Goldie Trophy 2025 winner: "Port St Mary Crossing" by Seamus Whelan
Mike Goldie Trophy 2025 winner: “Port St Mary Crossing” by Seamus Whelan

The new season opened with the annual Mike Goldie Trophy competition, a viewing of the latest LCPU print folios, and a chance for members to tell us “What I Did This Summer”.

It was great to see the room full of both new and familiar faces, and we hope everyone will be back on the 24th for Graham Harvey’s “Magic of Africa” presentation.

The theme for the Mike Goldie Trophy was “Motion”, set by last year’s winner James Joyce, and President Brian Goldie judged the competition in James’ absence.

The entries featured almost every possible subject in motion – people, animals, bugs, water, lights, flowers and vehicles – and Brian whittled almost 30 entries down to a top three.

The results were:
1st:  “Port St Mary Crossing” by Seamus Whelan
2nd: “Blackpool” by Andrea Thrussell
3rd: “Log Jam Silverdale River” by Steve Johnstone

Mike Goldie Trophy 2025 runner-up: "Blackpool" by Andrea Thrussell

Congratulations to Seamus, who will pick a theme for next season’s competition in due course.
