One of our aims is to encourage and promote the appreciation and understanding of photography, and October’s club night definitely did that.
Colin Russell returned to share a further selection of his landscape images, this time concentrating on Autumn and Winter as his favourite seasons for photography.
He explained that he loves the colours and weather in Autumn, with its sunsets and sunrises and the occasional dash of warm light from the sun, and recommended using a circular polarising filter to reduce reflections from wet leaves.
Sharing a wonderful selection of images, Colin urged us to be patient and wait for the right light. He suggested revisiting locations to learn when the conditions will be perfect and showed examples of his work and the story behind each one.
He also showed images where he used a telephoto lens to isolate details and compress the landscape, and offered advice on how to make the most of different weather conditions.
His main piece of advice for anyone beginning landscape photography is “Don’t give up!” and “Get out there – you won’t get anything sitting at home”.
