Members Share “8 in 10” Photos

At our club night on Wednesday 15th November, members showed a small selection of their images.

Numbers were depleted by holidays and illness, but six members were able to show 8-10 images each and share some details in a ten-minute slot.

Georgina showed landscapes from a recent trip to Windermere and images created with coloured lights and folded paper, explaining how they were made and bringing her tabletop lights for members to look at during the break.

Steve shared images of Canada and some deer and bearded tits at Leighton Moss reserve in Lancashire.  It was discussed that the staff at Leighton Moss attract the birds by putting out trays of grit, which they need to help with their digestion.

Peter showed a variety of landscape and nature images including an owl, a pine marten, and a humourous shot of a photographer lying flat with a long lens on a beach under scrutiny from curious penguins.

Seamus shared creative monochrome images, some with intentional camera movement and blur, and deliberately not edited with Photoshop as he wanted to demonstrate that Photoshop is not always needed to create such images.

Brian Green showed his recent head-on portrait of “Boris” the local peacock who frequents his garden along with several peahens, some travel photos and an interesting example of how Lightroom’s latest noise reduction effectively cleaned up a cropped section of a close-up image.

Brian Goldie took a different approach and showed a selection of scanned Southern Photographic Society images from the “A Day in the Life of Port St Mary” event in 1979. This was an engaging segment as people discussed who they recognised in the photos, while some of the signage in the shops provided a few laughs.

Thank you to everyone who took part and hopefully more members will be fit and able to join in next time.  Our next meeting is on Wednesday 29th November when David Silvester is our visitor.
