The point-scoring part of our season concluded with the third and final open competition.

David Killip has twice taken charge of our Image of the Year competition, and this time he returned for the competition that would decide everyone’s points totals.
He assessed 18 prints and 47 digital images, saying that they were of a “really high standard”, and added that he has always believed that photography is an art form and therefore subjective. Inevitably, he commented, his winning images would be a subjective choice.

There was the usual wide selection of subjects and styles, including nature, architecture, sea- and landscapes, portraits and action, and all received a thoughtful and constructive critique. Our thanks go to David for another interesting and entertaining visit.
In the print section, the results were as follows:
1st: “Hungry Badger” by Peter Skears – 17 points
2nd: “Red Kite” by Peter Skears – 17 points
3rd: “Prity in Pink” by Seamus Whelan – 17 points

The digital section results were as follows:
1st: “Greenbottle” by Jim Gibson – 18 points
2nd: “4 in 1 Sunset” by Jim Gibson – 17 points
3rd: “Busy Bumblebee” by Peter Skears – 17 points

Of Peter’s winning print of the badger, David liked the natural textures and details and thought it was well-composed, while Jim’s winning DPI was “colourful and detailed, especially the compound eye”.
Our final event of the season is the ‘Image of the Year’, for images which have already been entered into one of the season’s competitions. Judge Patricia Tutt ARPS will present the results on Wednesday May 6th.
