Before starting this second regular competition of the season, we remembered one of the club’s founders and a former long-serving member, Donald Gellion, who sadly passed away last week.
This was the season’s first ‘Open’, which, as always, meant the entries encompassed a wide range of subjects, styles and techniques. There were 27 prints and 57 digital entries.
The judge Chris Blyth took up photography over 60 years ago and has been a member of the IOMPS for 20 years and a committee member for over 15, serving as President, Vice-President, Secretary and now Competitions Secretary.

Despite claiming not to be a great photographer or judge, he brought a seasoned eye and offered a constructive critique on each image, saying he was here not to ‘judge’ but to “evaluate, assess, encourage and advise”. It was Chris’ first visit to judge for us but we hope not the last. He even threw in some tips about neutral density and graduated filters and the use of a focusing rail for macro photography.
In addition to a top three in both categories, a number of ‘Highly-Commended’ and ‘Commended’s were awarded and they are listed below.
