Judging Presentation

On Wednesday 17th February, members enjoyed a presentation by Patricia Tutt, a highly experienced and qualified photographer and one of the most respected judges on the island.

Patricia,, who serves as Secretary of the Western Photographic Society, spoke about the theory of photographic judging, what judges look for, how they should deliver their feedback, whilst also stressing that you should create images for your own enjoyment and not to please a judge or win a competition. The presentation included notable images by well-known photographers of different styles and eras, as well as some of Patricia’s own images.

After the break, Patricia shared her presentation about ‘Composition and Vision’, which discussed the various photographic ‘rules’ and theories and included further examples. She answered questions throughout the evening and her images, expertise and generous advice were all much appreciated by those present.

Visits

As mentioned at the start of the evening, committee members are working on five potential outings between now and the start of next season but if anyone has any suggestions, or can arrange access to somewhere unusual, please let us know.

50th Anniversary

Our major project this year is the exhibition to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the society. It will take place throughout August and we are inviting members to submit their best images for selection. Further details are available in the latest email.

Mike Goldie Trophy

Finally, the winner of the annual Mike Goldie Trophy selects the theme for the following year and judges the entries, so Andrea has set “Hands” as the theme for next season. Hopefully this gives members plenty of time to get some images ready for the beginning of next season!

If we are forced to change our schedule due to Government announcements in the next few days, we will update you as soon as possible.
