Our first meeting of 2022 featured the entries and results for the first competition of the new year.
Dr Patricia Tutt ARPS made a welcome return to the Southern Photographic Society to present the entries and results for the January Open and – as always for an ‘Open’ – we enjoyed a wide range of subjects and styles.

Patricia was thorough with her comments, pointing out a number of focus issues in the print section and exposure/other issues with some of the digital entries, but she was always positive, constructive and generous with advice.
In addition to the usual top three in each section, Pat selected a number of ‘Commended’ and ‘Highly Commended’ images and the results were as follows:
Print Section –
1st: ‘In Memory’ by Alan Taylor – 19 points (top of page)
2nd: ‘On The Limit’ by Jim Gibson – 19 points

3rd: ‘Fallow Deer’ by Peter Skears – 18 points

Highly Commended:
‘Home Time’ by Andrea Thrussell – 18 points

‘Moody Sky on Langness’ by Alan Taylor – 18 points

‘Candle Light’ by Seamus Whelan – 18 points

Digital Section –

2nd: ‘Black Guillemot Submarine’ by Peter Skears -19 points

3rd: ‘Fast Car’ by Barry Hennedy – 18 points

‘Mountain Orchid’ by Jason Quayle – 18 points

‘Colourful Toothbrushes’ by Sue Clegg – 17 points

‘Sphere in Sphere Sunset’ by Jim Gibson – 17 points

Congratulations to Alan and Brian and well done to everyone with placed and commended images. A special mention for Alan on his first competition win.
Our next meeting is Wednesday 19th January when we will have a presentation on underwater photography. Anyone attending should take a Lateral Flow Test before leaving for the meeting, please.
The following Sunday, 23rd January, is the deadline for the “Water” competition, which will be judged by Mike Wade on 2nd February.
