Digital Art 2022 Results

Digital Art winner 2022: “Support Ukraine” by Barry Hennedy

The postponed “Digital Art” evening took place on Wednesday 9th March.

In addition to the annual ‘DIgital Art’ competition, when members are challenged to create something a little arty or quirky, the evening also featured walk-throughs of some entries and discussions about software and the current schedule of competitions.

For the competition itself, members viewed over 30 entries several times before voting for their top three, and the result was as follows:

1st place: “Support Ukraine” by Barry Hennedy
2nd place: “Yala Leaping Out” by Jason Quayle
3rd place: “Polo” by Andrea Thrussell

Digital Art runner-up: “Yala Leaping Out” by Jason Quayle

Congratulations to Barry for his second successive Digital Art success and Jason for making it a close competition. There was a wide range of ideas and styles on show including composites, manipulated images and some created from scratch.

Digital Art third place: “Polo” by Andrea Thrussell

The top three can be seen on this page and all of the entries will be in the website gallery before the weekend.

We are grateful to Jason, Brian Green and Georgina who showed the various stages of creating some of their images, including the use of layers, masking and brushes to achieve various effects.

On the topic of our schedule, there was support for reducing the number of competitions and creating more club nights for practical sessions/presentations etc.  A number of options were discussed and there will be further debate before the AGM.

Club Treasurer Andy Kennaugh received a great send-off in Castletown this afternoon, with Arbory Street Methodist Church packed to the rafters to celebrate his life.  Andy’s 35+ years’ membership and support of the SPS was one of the features of the vicar’s ‘Thanksgiving’ speech.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, 16th March, when Chris Blyth will judge the entries to the “Our Historic Isle” competition.
