“Wild West” Club Night

Yosemite National Park by Chris Blyth

On Wednesday, visiting speaker Chris Blyth took us on a whistle-stop tour of the national parks of the mid and Western USA.

His images were accompanied by a potted history touching on the indigenous tribes, slavery, wars, geology and the damage caused by man to the natural landscape.

Chris included views of the dramatic peaks and waterfalls of Yosemite, moving on to the Olympic National Park and a segment covering the 1980 eruption of Mount St Helens and the lasting effect on the current day landscape.

Other stops included the narrow gauge railway of Mesa Verde that winds along the Colorado river, Canyon Lands, Arches National Park, Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone, with some memorable sights and stories along the way.

Chris received a spontaneous round of applause at the conclusion and he was thanked for an enjoyable and enlightening presentation.

At our next meeting on 30th November, Clare Payne will present the results of the “Long Exposure” competition.
