At our meeting on 18th November, members enjoyed a presentation of night sky images by Ron Strathdee, a good friend of the Southern Photographic Society.
There were many jaw-dropping scenes of the Milky Way over a variety of island locations, but Ron also shared a selection of Aurora Borealis (‘Northern Lights’) images and others taken after dark in settings ranging from the Point of Ayre to his garden in Colby.
Ron offered tips and answered questions throughout the evening, encouraging members to experiment with the higher ranges of ISO sensitivity and demonstrating how software can help to reduce noise.

Other notable images included light beams in the night sky at Point of Ayre lighthouse and starry reflections at locations like Injebreck, and Ron received warm applause at the end of his excellent presentation. You can see more of his work at his website or his Facebook page: www.facebook.com/digitalmanphotography
Our next meeting is on Wednesday 1st November when Patricia Tutt LRPS will present the results of the “Nature’s Patterns” competition.
