Last Wednesday, Sue Blythe presented the results of the first open competition of the season.
Sue is a long-term member and committee member of the IOMPS and an accomplished photographer in many fields from nature and wildlife to studio portraits. She has visited several times to judge or talk and it was a pleasure to welcome her back.

Sue explained that as a judge she looks for images that stand out and have the “wow factor”, that are well-processed (and in the case of prints, well mounted), that have the simple things right like verticals and horizontals, but to remember that all comments and scores are “just my opinion and you are free to ignore it!”
There were 21 prints and 41 digital images and the results were:
Print Section:
1st: ‘Michael Rutter Flat Out at Ballagarey’ by James Joyce – 20 points
2nd: ‘Lizard Lunch’ by James Joyce – 20 points
3rd: ‘Kingfisher Contemplation’ by Steve Johnstone – 19 points

Digital Section:
1st: ‘Douglas Fireworks’ by Georgina Shaw – 20 points
2nd: ‘Tranquility’ by Andrea Thrussell – 20 points
3rd: ‘Ruffled Feathers’ by Andrea Thrussell – 19 points

There was the usual wide range of subjects for an open, which also included architecture, landscapes, still life, travel and macro. Well done to everyone for an interesting evening of excellent images.
Remember the deadline for the next competition is just the other side of the festive season on Sunday 7th January 2024. The theme is “Abandoned” and our judge will be Jimmy “Thistle” Weir who visited to talk and show some of his images in September.
Wishing all readers a very “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” and looking forward to seeing everyone at the club night on 10th January. Nollick Ghennal as Blein Vie Noa!
