The February Open competition attracted a big variety of subjects and styles.
Experienced photographer Dennis Wood judged the competition, which attracted 24 prints and 39 digital entries.
Dennis likened creating an image to cooking a meal, with the components of the image being the ingredients. Sometimes he didn’t like the recipe, sometimes he didn’t like one ingredient, and sometimes disliked the way it had all been cooked.

He used this analogy several times to explain things and clearly had spent a long time studying the images. He sometimes offered suggestions to improve images, stressing that it was only his opinion, and suggested rotating some of the prints or flipping an image to improve the leading lines. The results were as follows.
Print section:
1st: ‘Shaun Anderson At The Max’ by James Joyce – 20 points
2nd: ‘Going Down’ by Brian Green -19 points
3rd: ‘Frozen Flower’ by Sue Clegg – 18 points

Digital section:
1st: ‘Incoming Shell Duck’ by James Joyce – 20 points
2nd: ‘The Stag’ by James Joyce – 19 points
3rd: ‘Dahlia’ by Seamus Whelan – 19 points

Congratulations to James on his winning return and to everyone for an excellent range of subjects. The top 6 images can be seen on this page and all entries will be in the Gallery section soon.
