“What I Did This Summer”

At our first meeting of the new season, the Mike Goldie Trophy competition was followed by a viewing of the Lancashire & Cheshire Photographic Union folios. This featured some high-quality prints on papers ranging from matte to high-gloss, and the range of subjects and techniques provided insight into the trends and standards in UK club photography.

The final segment was the now traditional and sociable “What I Did This Summer”, when a few of the members share some recent photographs.

Andrea led with nature and maternity images and examples of the summer print project, Seamus showed a recent trip to Cork and “Roaring Bay”, and Brian Green shared highlights of local summer events and his holiday in the USA, where temperatures reached 39 degrees in Dallas.

Jason also showed a variety of events and locations in England and the IOM, including a mini railway in Bride, while Jim’s images ranged from boats and planes to macro and night skies, ending with a time-lapse of a sunset in Port Erin.

Steve showed a selection of his recent bird and macro images, explaining how he uses “stacking” to create sharp close-up images. Meanwhile, Georgina shared nature and architecture shots from Yorkshire and closer to home, concluding with a zoomed-in shot from a tram journey.

It was great to see the room full of both new and familiar faces, and we hope everyone will be back on 24th September for Graham Harvey’s “Magic of Africa” presentation.
