The Tigers of Ranthambore

Sue Blythe’s “Tigers of Ranthambore” presentation was well attended on Wednesday.

As well as imagery of tigers in the Ranthambore National Park, the people of India and also The Taj Mahal, Sue’s talk on the tigers was informative and the images stunning.

The first point-scoring competition of the new season took place on Wednesday 7th October, judged by David Silvester. A well-known local photographer, instructor and international judge, David is a good friend of the Southern Photographic Society and has hosted practical evenings in the past as well as judging for us.

Practical Club Night

On Wednesday 23rd September we held a practical club night with a tabletop session set up by Georgina, followed by a visit from Ron Strathdee to show us how he post-processes his images of the night sky and Milky Way.

A selection of images from the first part of the evening can be seen on this page showing people working on the different tables, and a few of their results. Many thanks again to Georgina for researching and setting up the different scenarios.

If you are a keen photographer looking for ideas and inspiration, the Southern Photographic Society may be the place for you.

We are a relaxed and friendly group of photographers who meet every other Wednesday from September to May in the modern clubhouse at Colby Football Club. All abilities are welcome and you certainly don’t need an expensive camera to join.

First Summer Outing

A small group of SPS members got together for the first time since early March, thanks to the Isle of Man’s current Covid-free status and no requirement for social distancing.

End of Season Update

We hope everyone is well and enjoying the relative normality that we are currently fortunate to have on the island. The committee has had a short break to catch our breath at the end of a long eventful season but we will be meeting soon to discuss the next steps.

Close Up Competition Results

For our final digital competition of the season, judge Chris Nicholls was joined by wife Ruth, a fellow experienced photographer, who offered to make a separate critique of each image before they arrived at an overall score.

We are very grateful to Chris and Ruth for judging the Close Up competition from their home and helping us to complete our season, and – as you will see below – giving such in-depth comments.
