The first point-scoring competition of the new season took place on Wednesday 7th October, judged by David Silvester. A well-known local photographer, instructor and international judge, David is a good friend of the Southern Photographic Society and has hosted practical evenings in the past as well as judging for us.
It was great to see so many images and new members getting involved and David gave his usual detailed critique and advice for each image with plenty of humour thrown in. He said he immediately noticed that the standard of entries keeps improving and that he found it hard to separate the top 5-6 images in both sections.
The results are as follows:
1st: ‘In Chains’ by Andrea Thrussell – 18 points
2nd: ‘Mountain Gate’ by Andrea Thrussell – 17 points
3rd: ‘Barbed Wire’ by Georgina Shaw – 17 points
1st: ‘A Different Barrier’ by Andrea Thrussell – 17 points
2nd: ‘Germ Barrier’ by Georgina Shaw – 17 points
3rd: ‘The Barrier Fails’ by Brian Goldie – 17 points
All of the entries – including print files for the first time – will be in the Gallery section by the weekend.
We are not all about competitions and in two weeks we have a presentation by visiting speaker, Sue Blythe. Sue is a highly qualified photographer and she will be sharing some of her stunning wildlife images and answering questions, so we hope everyone can be there on the 21st.
