All entries have been seen previously in this season’s competitions, and it was good to see them all again in the same event.  Judge David Silvester began the evening with an explanation of how he assesses competition images and gave a thorough critique of all 60+ images.

The results are as follows:

1st: “Full Steam Ahead” by Seamus Whelan
2nd: “Hiding” by Peter Skears
3rd: “The Rut” by Alan Taylor

The shortlisted entries were (print) “Up the Waterfall We Go” by Sue Clegg and (digital) “Jet Stream” by Alan Taylor,  “Road to Nowhere” and “Busy Bee” by Andrea Thrussell,  “Cycle Race” by Brian Goldie and “Waves” by Seamus Whelan.

Seamus’ “Full Steam Ahead” and Barry’s “Summer Solstice” duly went head-to-head for the overall Image of the Year and David chose Seamus’ black and white print of a railway engine steaming in a station, which he described as “superbly composed and printed”.

Many congratulations to both Seamus and Barry, who are due to receive their trophies next week, and indeed to everyone who submitted their images. It was interesting to have the opportunity to view so many excellent images again.

David Silvester concluded by saying that the standard of entries is improving “dramatically” every time he visits to judge for us.  Well done everyone!
