On Wednesday evening the postponed March open competition was judged by Barry Murphy and we were pleased to welcome him back for a second visit.
It was just our second meeting of 2021 and the first competition since early December so it was great to see everyone again. Barry originally assessed the images at the end of February so he took a fresh look this week to remind himself of the images and to check his comments and scores.
His feedback and advice included a useful reminder about “edge patrol” and checking for partial intrusions around the edges of images.

As always with an open competition, there was a wide range of subjects, styles and techniques among the 30 prints and 54 digital entries – everything from caterpillars to steam engines to candid portraits – and the results were as follows.
Print section:
1st: ‘Wave Rider’ by Jim Gibson – 19 points
2nd: ‘Ray’ by Georgina Shaw – 18 points
3rd: ‘Chicken Rock’ by Andrea Thrussell – 18 points

Digital section:
1st: ‘Fire Fighting’ by Andrea Thrussell – 20 points
2nd: ‘Up for the Header’ by Brian Goldie – 19 points
3rd: ‘Digging In’ by Peter Skears – 19 points

Members are reminded that Sunday 2nd May is the deadline for entries to the season’s final competition (open).
