Happy New Year everyone!

Our first meeting of 2020 is tomorrow, Wednesday, 8th January, when we will see the entries and results for the “Shadows and Silhouettes” competition.  The judge is Dennis Wood, and if he is anything like his Western Photographic Society colleague Eddie Fryer we are in for an interesting evening of expert critique. As ever, guests are welcome and we start at 7.45pm.

The following meeting on Wednesday 22nd is a Club Night when four of our experienced members will give a presentation on sport and action photography.  Brian, Dave, Jim and John will each be sharing a selection of images and tips covering team sports, motorsport and water sports.  Even if you don’t do sports photography yourself, their advice can be applied to a variety of moving subjects and could be useful for one of next season’s themes, ‘Movement/Motion’.

This year it is our turn to host the annual ‘battle’ with the Western club and it takes place on Wednesday, 19th February.  It is always a welcome opportunity to meet with other photographers but it is a keenly-contested event too and we need a selection of our members’ best images.

We will be drawing up our shortlist from previous competition entries but if you have any additional images that may be suitable then do send them to the usual address as soon as possible.  Please also send the digital version of any print entries that have done well.  The address is comps@southernphotographicsociety.org and include “Western Battle” in the title to avoid confusion with our next open competition.
