Our third Open competition of the season was judged by Sue Blythe on Wednesday 5th February.
Sue is a committee member of the Isle of Man Photographic Society and we are grateful that she gave up a night with her own club to present the results to us. She leads photography workshops on and off the island, has a studio for child and animal photography, and she has earned the LRPS DPAGB and BPE4* and is currently working towards 5*.
Sue assessed 69 prints and digital images and offered concise and expert critique along with suggestions on how some images might be improved. Her style was appreciated by members and she was warmly applauded at the end of the evening.
As usual for an Open, we enjoyed many contrasting subjects and styles, summed up by the print winner showing a fierce and muddy moment in a women’s rugby match while the digital winner was a tranquil coastal sunset. The results were as follows:
1st: “It’s Raining, I’m Wet, Are You Feeling Lucky” by John Keelan – 20 points
2nd: Daily Burden by Dave Salter – 20 points
3rd: Forest Life by Dave Salter – 19 points
1st: The Watcher by Georgina Shaw – 20 points
2nd: Just Out of the Water by John Keelan – 19 points
3rd: A Winter Wander by Dave Salter – 19 points
We are still having trouble adding the updated scores to the new website so will set up an external link for the rest of the season. Print-outs of the current running totals were issued on Wednesday and the current top positions are at the foot of this page.
You can see all of the digital entries for this competition on the Gallery link at the top of this page.
We hope to see as many members as possible on 19th February when we host the Western Photographic Society in the annual two-way ‘battle’.
